One of 2023’s most exciting blockbusters was filmed in Ireland

Rory Cashin

Yep, we’re already extremely hyped for this one…

You probably don’t know directors and writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, but you will.

They got their start writing the scripts for Horrible Bosses (decent), Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 (very good) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (the best of the Tom Holland movies so far).

Then they broke into directing with Vacation (massively underappreciated) and Game Night (ditto), so they’ve been due a proper launching pad for their careers for some time.

So we’re happy to say that is about to arrive with Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, a huge action blockbuster that was filmed right here in Ireland, with many of its huge battle scenes filmed in Belfast.

The movie stars Chris Pine (Hell Or High Water), Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious), Regé-Jean Page (Bridgerton), Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Sophia Lillis (Sharp Objects) and Hugh Grant (Paddington 2), and the brand new trailer below has got us very excited for what looks like a hugely entertaining epic.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves is set for release in Irish cinemas in March 2023.

Now, on with the rest of this week’s biggest trailers, starting with…

HALLOWEEN ENDS

The trilogy ending, following Halloween and Halloween Kills, sees Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, taking on Michael Myers for one final time. Is she still planning on having a Halloween festival in Ireland this October? We certainly hope so!

Halloween Ends arrives in Irish cinemas on Friday, 14 October.

DON’T WORRY DARLING

The latest trailer for the new erotic psychological horror from director Olivia Wilde (Booksmart) sees a husband and wife (Harry Styles and Florence Pugh) move to a new town for his new job, but it isn’t long before weird things start happening and they begin to question their own reality.

The movie will arrive in Irish cinemas on Friday, 23 September.

THEY/THEM

Kevin Bacon headlines this new horror movie about a group of LGBTQ+ teens at a gay conversion therapy camp, who are suddenly forced to defend themselves from a mysterious serial killer.

The movie arrives on Peacock on Friday, 5 August.

NOT OKAY

Having faked a trip to Paris, a wannabe influencer (Zoey Deutch) is forced to maintain the lie following a horrific incident in the French capital city. Things only get more complicated from there…

The movie arrives on Disney+ on Friday, 29 July.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON

We move on to the shows with arguably the most-anticipated show of 2022. The prequel series to Game Of Thrones has a lot to live up to, but we imagine it will have the same scope, action, betrayal, violence and sexy times as the show it has spun-off from.

The first episode will debut on NOW and Sky on Monday, 22 August.

WELCOME TO WREXHAM

This sports docu-series sees two Hollywood stars – Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) – take ownership of the third-oldest professional football club in the world.

The show kicks off on Disney+ on Thursday, 25 August.

THE IDOL

The creator of Euphoria teams up with music icon The Weeknd for this drama series about a rising pop star (Lily-Rose Depp) who begins a relationship with a modern-day cult leader (Abel Tesfaye).

No set release date announced yet, it is to debut on HBO before the end of the year, and should arrive on NOW/Sky soon after that.

MIKE

The creative team behind I, Tonya tackle the rise and fall of the career of Mike Tyson in this unauthorised but still no-holds-barred dramatic series.

The series will debut as part of this year’s Disney+ Day, on Thursday, 8 September.

THE HANDMAID’S TALE – SEASON 5

Get ready for all-out war.

The fifth season arrives in the States in September, with an Irish release date still TBC.

NATIONAL TREASURE: EDGE OF HISTORY

And, last but not least, our first tease of the new show based on those hit Nicolas Cage movies. He’s not in this show, but Catherine Zeta-Jones is!

It will arrive on Disney+ “soon”, which probably means this side of Christmas.

Clips via Hulu, HBO, Disney+, Universal, Peacock, Warner Bros. & eOne
