Something to binge over the bank holiday weekend.

This coming bank holiday weekend, Sky Living will launch a new crime series, Golden State Killer: Unmasked, the five-part series that will detail one of the most notorious and prolific serial killers in US history. Last week, police believe that they finally caught the Golden State Killer, a man responsible for a staggering 51 attacks and 12 murders in California, after a 40-year hunt.

Between 1976 and 1986, this criminal raped at least 51 people and murdered at least 12 across the state of California—that the authorities know of.

The police hunt for the killer finally found a suspect on Thursday after a search which lasted nearly four decades.

Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, of the Sacramento suburb of Citrus Heights was initially charged with two counts of suspicion of murder in connection with the 1978 deaths of a young Rancho Cordova couple, shot as they walked their dog. He’s being held without bail.

DeAngelo was finally apprehended after the FBI Sacramento announced a national campaign and $50,000 reward to identify the perpetrator in 2016.

Golden State Killer: Unmasked, is a documentary series that’s made by HLN and it takes an in-depth look at the manhunt, patterns, escape methods and mind games of the Golden State Killer.

In terms of its narrative approach, the series will document interviews with investigators, law enforcement and victims – who have never spoken out publicly – as they offer information to help solve the mystery of a man who managed to evade capture for decades.

Here’s the synopsis of the very first episode: “This is the terrifying true story of one of the nation’s most prolific uncaught serial killers. Known first as the East Area Rapist, then the Original Night Stalker, and now the Golden State Killer, he’s responsible for a staggering 51 attacks and 12 murders … that we know of. For forty years investigators have been on the manhunt for this sadistic criminal and recent evidence suggests he may still be alive. With the FBI offering a $50,000 reward, the investigation is hotter than ever.”

Sky Living will be premiering the series from Friday 4 May at 9pm and all episodes will be available as a boxset On Demand from Friday 4th May.
