Before starting any workout, it is absolutely imperative that you warm up properly first. For example, I warm up for five minutes on the cross-trainer at a steady pace to warm up my body and get my blood flowing.

When training my upper body, I find that it’s crucial for me to warm up my joints, especially my shoulders, as most people who go to the gym regularly will encounter shoulder difficulty at some point if they don’t warm up adequately before exercise.

Barbell bench press: 5 sets x 12 reps

Incline dumbbell press: 5 sets x 10 reps

Cable flys: 5 sets x 15 reps

NB: The first set of every exercise is always a warm up set.
