Easy Exercise of the Week: Lying Twisting Leg Raises

An excellent variation on the leg raises.

Here's an exercise designed to really work your abs and it's another one of those 'lie on your back' routines which always makes us happy. Once again, at the risk of sounding like a broken record or, to keep it modern, a corrupt MP4 file, you will only reap the benefits of the exercise if it's performed correctly. Here is the correct way to do it:
  • Lie with your back flat on the floor and lift your legs six inches off the ground and engage your ab muscles while doing so.
  • Place your hands either under your backside/glutes with your palms down.
  • Lower your legs as low as you can to the right for two counts down, then raise them up for two counts.
  • Exhaling as you return to centre, actively pull your belly button into your lower back. Drop to the left side and repeat.
  • Make sure to keep your upper body planted on the floor as you twist. Repeat for 10 to 12 reps per side.
