We all love a good cuppa’ tea from time to time, but there’s nothing worse than a kettle covered in lime scale. Here’s how to clean it off in just five minutes.
You certainly wouldn’t want to be giving any house guests a cup of tea or coffee from a lime scale soaked kettle. However you can safely avoid doing so with this five minute DIY cleaning tip.
What you’ll need:
Water
Vinegar
Water softener
Step 1: Assess the damage
Before you open up a tub of elbow grease you’re better off assessing the damage that’s already been done. If your kettle has seen better days and the lime scale is seriously caked on, then you might want to see about getting a new one. If the damage isn’t too bad then you can get to work…
Step 2: Soften the water
The first thing you can do to de-scale the lime from your kettle is to add two tbsp. (that’s table spoons) of water softener to a full kettle of water and boil the solution for 2-3 minutes. Once the kettle has come to the boil, leave it for a minute and then clean it out with water.
Step 3: Rinse and repeat
If necessary repeat the process and then rinse out the kettle with clean water just like you did a moment ago. Your old kettle should look brand spanking new.

If you’re a tad strapped for cash and you want a cheaper home remedy then simply fill the kettle half way with vinegar and then fill the rest of it with water. Bring this to the boil and leave over night. If you need to, simply repeat the process and the job should be a good’n – just make sure to clean the kettle out before you try making yourself a cup of tea.
