JOE’s first look at some of the stellar songs that these 32 counties have produced has landed us on an absolute classic…

2015 is just in its early infancy and while JOE will always bring you the best new music, we’re also refusing to ignore some absolute classics from years gone by.

Every day we’re aiming to bring you one of our favourite tunes from the worlds of rock, pop, soul, hip-hop, dance and anything else that grabs us.

While it’s easy to look abroad for some brilliant anthems, there have been some amazing songs recorded in these counties and to be honest, there’s no better song to start than this one.

Artist, album and year: The Undertones, The Undertones (re-release), 1979

Why is it a classic? : Never before has three chords so brilliantly captured the sheer joy, kinetic energy and reckless fun that’s associated with being a teenager and absolutely infatuated by the opposite sex. The fact that the song still sounds like it was recorded yesterday is testament to the bands genius.

Did you know? : The iconic and much missed DJ John Peel championed the song to such an extend that he gave it 28 stars out of a possible five. He also had the following lyrics engraved on his headstone…

The lyrical hook: “”Teenage dreams, so hard to beat”
