The Adidas Copa Mundial is arguably one of the most famous boots of all time and it’s about to be given a radical makeover in time for the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

Chances are if you’ve played any sport that involves kicking a ball at any level you’ve worn or owned a pair of Adidas Copa Mundials or their soft ground equivalent, Adidas World Cups, at some point.

Released in 1979 and still the best-selling boot of all time, the classic black and white boot with moulded studs might not be seen much in the top European football leagues these days, but it remains a staple of an inter-county GAA player’s gear bag; the Kerry footballers in particular have been big fans over the years.

Plenty of fans of the boot would argue that you should never mess with a classic, but in a very interesting development, Adidas are going to give it a radical makeover and release it in six different colours ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

According to soccercleats101.com, the Adidas Copa Mundial Samba Collection will see the boots released in Vivid Berry, Solar Slime, Solar Zest, Blast Purple and Solar Blue as well as the alternative predominantly white with black trim combination that were already in existence.

While the names above sound really fancy – apart from the awfully titled solar slime, of course – basically there will be versions of the boot available in red, orange, purple, lime green and blue and while they’ll look a lot different, they’ll still be as comfortable and perform just as well as the classic Copa Mundial has for decades.

Like we said, Copa Mundial enthusiasts might be uncomfortable with the notion of messing with a classic boot, but on first glance they look pretty nice indeed and will no doubt be in high demand when they go on the market a little later this year.

So what’s the verdict, football boot fanatics, yay or nay?
