The US Ambassador for the Netherlands was left embarrassed this week when he called a statement he previously made "fake news".
Pete Hoekstra was appointed as the US Ambassador to The Netherlands earlier this year and is only a few weeks into his new role.
But, Hoekstra was on record at a debate back in 2015 as saying there are no go areas in The Netherlands, where cars and politicians are being set on fire. He also said that Europe is in chaos.
Wouter Zwart from the current affairs programme Nieuwsuur, asked Hoekstra about his statement this week.
"You mentioned in a debate that there are no-go zones in the Netherlands and that cars and politicians are being set on fire in the Netherlands," Zwart said.
Hoekstra denies ever saying this and subsequently calls Zwart's statement "fake news".
Have a look at the video below as Hoekstra is caught out in his lie... it makes for great viewing.
