VIDEO: Young comedian Al Porter’s take on Dublin’s gang violence is incredibly spot on

Carl Kinsella

Al Porter is much more than a comedian.

The young man from Tallaght has made a name for himself on the comedy circuit, as well as presenting on 2fm – but Porter has more in his arsenal than just jokes.

Appearing on Brendan O’Connor’s RTÉ programme The Cutting Edge, Porter was asked for his opinion on Dublin’s recent spate of gang violence – violence which has resulted in six deaths since the Regency Hotel shooting in February.

Porter spoke passionately and articulately on the subject, criticising Enda Kenny for describing the violence as ‘between two families’. Porter asserted that ‘those families have neighbours, and those neighbours have children.’

Porter went on to argue that there are people who are afraid to open their doors at night because they’re afraid of who might be on the other side.

The comedian also made the point that if the violence were happening in ‘Foxrock, Blackrock, or outside the door in Montrose’ then the Garda presence would be much higher.
