Tonight is the night of “sequels better than the originals”.

The weekend is almost here, which means new movies to see in the cinema.

We review them all here, but before then, there are some decent movies on the small screen tonight to tide you over.

THURSDAY 14 NOVEMBER

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – Film4 – 6.05pm

The second (and best) of the Hunger Games movies, when the organisers decide to fix the competition and have some of the previous winners of the future-gladiator death-match face off against each other.

Coming To America – Comedy Central – 9pm

Eddie Murphy plays about 50% of the cast in this comedy about an African prince moving to America with his man-servant in order to get some life experience. And also to help his soul glow.

Star Trek Into Darkness – Film4 – 9pm

The second (and best) of the rebooted, sexy-fied Star Trek movies, with Benedict Cumberbatch as the genetically modified super-human who decides to exact revenge against the Federation for their past sins.

Death Race – ITV4 – 10pm

Jason Statham is falsely imprisoned, just for the organisers of the Death Race – a hyper-violent reality TV show where inmates attempt to kill each other with weaponised vehicles – to get him on the track.

Child’s Play 2 – Horror Channel – 11.15pm

Pitch-black horror sequel involving a doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer, seeking revenge on the young boy from the first movie who managed to escape his tiny clutches.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes – Film4 – 11.40pm

The second (and best) of the updated Apes movies, set years after the disease wiped out most of mankind. The apes find themselves living an almost peaceful life, until a power struggle within the apes’ ranks sets off a chain of events that will have hugely destructive repercussions for both the apes and the humans.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
