Here are the 7 best movies on TV today

Rory Cashin

cowboys and aliens

You’ve got a tough decision to make tonight.

Pretty good line-up tonight, folks!

Check it out:

WEDNESDAY 9 JANUARY

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – ITV2 – 6.15pm

The best one.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – FilmFour – 6.15pm

Also the best one.

Cowboys & Aliens – E4 – 9.00pm

Considering it was the director of Iron Man working with Indiana Jones and James Bond as they try to kill some aliens in the wild west, this should have been A LOT better. Instead, it is just weirdly okay.

Saving Private Ryan – Sky One – 9.00pm

Spielberg’s vision of war-as-hell in the opening scenes is still as iconic today as they were when the movie was released over 20 years ago. He follows it up with one of the best war movies ever made, headlined by Tom Hanks brilliantly restrained performance.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me – Comedy Central – 9.00pm

Again, the best one.

Alien 3 – FilmFour – 10.55pm

Definitely not the best one, but considering it comes from David Fincher (Fight Club, Gone Girl, The Social Network), it is very interesting. There is a sickness vibe running through the whole thing, as survivor Sigourney Weaver finds herself on an all-male prison planet, with nothing but harsh weather, harsher inmates, and a not-unharsh alien for company.

The Usual Suspects – ITV4 – 11.25pm

An evil, twisted man who has done some terrible things tries to get away with it by hiding in plain sight. Starring Kevin Spacey.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
