It has an incredible leading pair.
It may only be Monday but there’s no better way to treat yourself for a hard day’s work than by checking out some movies on TV.
Luckily, tonight there are some great flicks on the telly this evening, with our pick of the bunch a stylish post-apocalyptic western – The Book of Eli.
Denzel Washington stars as Eli, a nomad travelling across a post-apocalyptic United States to deliver his copy of a mysterious book which he believes holds the key to saving humankind.
Oscar-winner Gary Oldman co-stars as the warlord desperate to foil Eli’s plans to deliver his book, with the movie also featuring Mila Kunis and the late, great Michael Gambon.
Directed by the Hughes brothers, the film was released in 2010 to mixed reception and holds a middling score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics pointing at its rough mix of genres and messy plotline.
However, it still holds love in the heart of viewers, with many praising the plot’s originality, its gritty post-apocalyptic setting and Washington’s lead performance in particular.
So we would recommend ignoring the low rating and giving it a go, if you’re a fan of the genre and of Denzel himself (who isn’t?), then there’s definitely an enjoyable movie night on offer.
If you’re looking to catch The Book of Eli, it’s airing on Film Four at 10.50pm.
