Aer Lingus deliver tongue-in-cheek, Donald Trump-style response to THAT Saoirse Ronan sketch

Conor Heneghan

Aer Lingus

“Unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny.”

Chances are you’ve come across a sketch about Aer Lingus starring Saoirse Ronan on Saturday Night Live at this stage; if you haven’t, let’s just say it was bizarre to say the least.

While the sketch itself didn’t target Aer Lingus directly, the airline was highlighted quite prominently in a sketch that revisited many of the tired Irish stereotypes you’ll have come across in movies and TV shows over the years.

What was going on with dogs popping up everywhere, meanwhile, we don’t think anyone will be able to explain.

The sketch was the talk of social media in Ireland on Sunday after it aired in the US on Saturday night and Aer Lingus decided to weigh in on the matter with a tweet that read: “Just tried watching Saturday Night Live – unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Ronan impersonation just can’t get any worse. Sad.”

Although the tone of the tweet is remarkably similar to the one regularly adopted by a certain US President on social media, some people didn’t immediately get the fact that the tweet is a parody of one sent by Donald Trump almost a year ago today.

Well played Aer Lingus, well played.
