Check out the excellent trailer for Parkland – the incredible story of JFK’s assassination

Get those Oscars polished because Paul Giamatti has got his big boy acting pants on.

After starting to watch Oliver Stone’s smoke-hazed JFK back in 1991, we’ve only just got around to finishing it last night. That’s right, the epic historical drama has a running time of 22 years.

Perfect timing though as the trailer for Parkland has just been released.

The film recounts the mad events of 22 November 1963, the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas and is an adaptation of Vincent Bugliosi’s book, Four Days In November.

Weaving together the accounts of various witnesses on that fateful day, including doctors, nurses, Secret Service teams, cameramen and FBI agents, Parkland features an excellent cast that will surely see it in the running come next year’s award season.

While we’re not overly enamoured with High School Musical star Zac Efron’s presence in the film, the inclusion of Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver and the hugely under-rated pairing of James Badge Dale and Ron ‘Office Space’ Livingston means that the film should provide plenty of dramatic, emotional heft for an examination of what is still an incredibly interesting and captivating subject to so many people around the world.

Plus, when Paul Giamatti puts on his big boy acting pants you know you’re in for a real treat.

Now sit yourself down on the nearest grassy knoll and enjoy:

Parkland is due to screen as part of September’s Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in Irish cinemas in November 2013.
