The new episodes of the show will look at a Carrigstown dealing with coronavirus.

New episodes of Fair City to return to RTÉ One in September, it has been announced.

RTÉ has confirmed that production of new episodes of Fair City has begun, with new procedures and safety systems in place.

The broadcaster said: “RTÉ continues to implement its working safely on site protocols, developed in line with HSE guidelines and Government recommendations on Covid-19.”

The new episodes will see the Carrigstown locals deal with life in Ireland with Covid-19, with RTÉ saying it will be able to review and align its practices if HSE guidelines are to develop or change.

Brigie deCourcy, executive producer, says: “It has been our priority that these systems were in place before committing to a return date so that we could protect the health and well-being of our actors, writers, directors and crew.

“We have been eager to get back to production, but the priority was the health and safety of the whole team. Everyone is delighted that we are now in a position to get back to telling stories and bringing fun and chaos back to Carrigstown.”
