This is what famous TV and movie characters would earn if they did their fictional jobs in real-life

We reckon Homer Simpson would want to be a damn sight better at his job to earn this kind of money.

Homer, as fans of The Simpsons won’t need reminding, has had many jobs throughout the long history of the show, but his most stable source of income has been through his role as safety inspector at the nuclear power plant in Springfield.

According to a new report by bizdaq, that role would earn him a cool $51,000 a year (approximately €48,000), not extravagant by any means, but probably enough to maintain a decent home on Evergreen Terrace with enough to spare for a few Duffs in Moe’s at the weekend.

Bizdaq sourced information from the likes of Forbes, The Washington Times, a host of salary and jobs websites and military organisations to arrive at estimated annual earnings for a wide range of well-known fictional characters from TV and movies over the years (see infographic below).

While life would be pretty good for the likes of writer Liz Lemon (annual earnings of $1.1 million, approximately €1.04 million) and palaeontologist Ross Geller (approximately €100,500), for example, Travis Bickle (approximately €33,575) and perhaps surprisingly, Sherlock Holmes (approximately €29,330), might struggle to pay the bills in cities as notoriously expensive as New York and London.

The likes of Homer, Breaking Bad’s Walter White and Park and Recreation’s Leslie Knope would be firmly in the middle class bracket, while, big deal as he might be, we reckon Ron Burgundy might struggle to maintain the luxurious lifestyle portrayed in Anchorman on a wage of €78,430 a year.

It would be no problem for his real-life alter ego Will Ferrell, of course, nor would it be for the actors and actresses who portray the characters listed below.
