Our TV movie pick for tonight (Tuesday, 25 March) is Flight, the excellent 2012 Denzel Washington drama directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Cast Away).
He plays a commercial airline pilot named Whip Whitaker who has a problem with drugs and alcohol but has so far managed to complete his flights safely.
"His luck runs out when a disastrous mechanical malfunction sends his plane hurtling toward the ground," the plot synopsis reads.
"Whip pulls off a miraculous crash-landing that results in only six lives lost.
"Shaken to the core, Whip vows to get sober -- but when the crash investigation exposes his addiction, he finds himself in an even worse situation."
Alongside Washington, Flight's cast includes Bruce Greenwood (House of Usher), Don Cheadle (Ocean's Eleven), James Badge Dale (The Empty Man), John Goodman (Barton Fink), Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone) and Melissa Leo (The Fighter).
And thanks to the movie's jaw-dropping crash-landing sequence, its brilliant performances and its harrowing portrait of addiction, the drama earned two Oscar nominations - including Best Original Screenplay for John Gattins and Best Actor for Washington.
The movie is airing tonight on Film4 at 11.25pm. It should also be available to stream on Channel 4's website after it airs.
