Game of Thrones prequel has begun filming in Ireland

Game of Thrones is back... in Ireland.

Game of Thrones only ended last month, but HBO is wasting no time pressing ahead with the planned prequels that will expand George RR Martin's universe.

Filming has officially begun on one of the prequels, and the studio has returned to the north of Ireland for production.

Many locations from the original show - such as the iconic Winterfell location - were in Northern Ireland, and documentary The Last Watch revealed the close connection that the cast and crew of the show formed with the North.

There are lots of prequels slated, and this prequel is from GOT showrunner Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class), along with author George R.R. Martin and director S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones). Early information suggests that it will be set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Martin had suggested that the name of the prequel would be The Long Night, though he later had to walk this back amid denials by HBO.

There has been some information on casting, and the show will feature Mulholland Dr star Naomi Watts, along with Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo
