A gripping mystery thriller is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It comes from the writer of Hell or High Water and Sicario.

It is Wednesday.

You’ve made it halfway to the weekend.

As such, why not reward yourself by relaxing on the sofa with a good flick this evening.

Here’s what is on the box.

Wind River – Film4 – 9pm

Our pick for tonight, this mystery thriller sees a veteran hunter (Jeremy Renner) help an FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) investigate the murder of a young woman on a snowy Wyoming Native American reservation.

Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan (who penned the screenplays for Hell or High Water and Sicario), Wind River continues his run of crafting powerful, thrilling stories based around timely, real-world issues.

From Russia With Love – ITV4 – 9pm

Sean Connery’s second outing as Bond is generally considered one of the high points of the entire franchise.

The Darkness – Horror Channel – 9pm

Kevin Bacon stars in this supernatural horror that boasts a 3% score on Rotten Tomatoes so perhaps it’s best to avoid.

Maximum Risk – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

A French cop (Jean-Claude Van Damme) seeks answers over the death of the twin brother he never knew he had.

The Wedding Ringer – Comedy Central Extra – 10pm

Josh Gad and Kevin Hart do their schtick in this watchable if forgettable comedy.

Hollow Man – Horror Channel – 10.50pm

Basic Instinct and Robocop’s Paul Verhoeven directs this gnarly (in a good way) updating of The Invisible Man.

Kevin Bacon again stars.

Absolute Power – Turner Classic Movies – 11.05pm

Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this political action thriller about a master jewel thief who witnesses the killing of a woman by Secret Service agents.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure – Film4 – 11.10pm

The third and final installment in the YA sci-fi series of movies.

The Krays – ITV4 – 11.20pm

This well-reviewed ’90s crime-drama sees real-life brothers and Spandau Ballet band members Gary and Martin Kemp play British gangster twins Ronald and Reginald Kray.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
