We’re very happy with Ben Affleck’s replacement in directing the new Batman movie

Phew! You had us worried there for a minute…

Things were beginning to go a little bit off the rails for The Batman: original director/co-writer Ben Affleck dropped out when he decided he wanted to just focus being in front of the camera for the project, while there was talk of the entire script being reworked from the ground up.

While the DC projects so far have been commercially successful, critics haven’t been exactly kind of Man Of Steel, Batman V Superman or Suicide Squad, so DC and Warners put their thinking caps on when it came to finding Affleck’s replacement and came up with just about the best choice imaginable.

Early rumours included Ridley Scott (Gladiator, The Martian) and Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breath), but who they landed on should make film fans very happy.

Matt Reeves is reportedly in early talks to sign on the dotted line, and he’s the guy behind Cloverfield, Let Me In, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and its upcoming sequel War Of The Planet Of The Apes.

He’s clearly a guy with a great eye for action while also getting fantastic performances from his cast, so we’re absolutely delighted with the choice, and if he manages to get a fight scene in as good as the one from BVS, we’ll be over-the-moon!

Affleck will appear in The Batman along side Alfred (Jeremy Irons) and the new Commissioner Gordon (J. K. Simmons) to fight the deadly assassin Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello), with a rumoured release date on October 2018.
