HBO have confirmed Gossip Girl reboot is on the way

JOE

It’s official: Gossip Girl is going to be returning to TV.

The dramatic and glamorous look into the lives of wealthy Manhattanites left our TV screens back in 2012 – and we’ve got to say, we definitely miss it.

And while there have been rumours of a possible reboot for months (OK, actually more like years), we’ve got some good news: a Gossip Girl reboot is finally happening.

The Hollywood Reporter report that WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service HBO Max has ordered a 10-episode series of a reimagined Gossip Girl.

Much like the original series, the rebooted Gossip Girl would be based on the book by Cecily von Ziegesar.

The description for the series reads:

“Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media – and the landscape of New York itself – has changed in the intervening years.”

There has been no premiere date set for the series just yet, but HBO Max is reportedly set to launch in 2020.

So we’ve still got a little while to wait.

It isn’t clear right now which (if any) of the former Gossip Girl stars would be making an appearance in the series. However, a number of the series’ stars have said they would be up for the reboot.

Chace Crawford, who played Nate Archibald, recently discussed the possibility of a Gossip Girl reboot – and why he would “have to” cameo if one did happen.

And both Leighton Meester and Blake Lively have previously said they would be up for reprising their roles as Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen respectively.

Meester told E! earlier this year that while she hadn’t heard of the reboot happening, she would “never say never.”

Meanwhile, Lively told Variety back in 2017 that while she was looking “to do something that I haven’t done yet, not something that I did,” she would be up for the reboot “if it made sense.”
