Hundreds of people plan on standing at Dublin’s Spire this month to say ‘Wow’ like Owen Wilson

Michael Lanigan

Wow.

Have you ever dreamed of standing next to Dublin’s Spire and saying “Wow” like the acclaimed actor, Owen Wilson?

It’s a ridiculous question. Of course you have.

Who hasn’t had such a non-specific fantasy? It’s probably number one on most people’s bucket lists.

The great news is that you might finally be able to make this dream a reality after a group of media students from Ballyfermot College decided to set up a Facebook event, ‘Saying “Wow” like Own Wilson at The Spire’.

Initially conceived as a joke, the event was inspired by a similar pow-wow that was staged in Melbourne, and which genuinely saw hundreds of people say “Wow” in unison.

The event was posted on Facebook on Sunday night and within 48 hours, almost 3,000 people had expressed an interest in attending, while Wow Burger has since reached out to the group to offer some merchandise should the event go ahead.

“It all blew up today,” one of the organisers, Holli Breslin, told JOE. “There’s seven of us and we’re going in to college tomorrow to actually organise it. I mean, we were going to do this at the Spire, but if this does turn into a proper event, we may need to change the location. We’re hoping to get a charity on board too, but we need to research licencing there first.”

“We’ve contacted the Ellen DeGeneres show to get some hype and spread the word, and also an agent of Owen Wilson’s, just to see if he could come over. We’re hoping, but we’re being very optimistic with all this. Who knows?”

So, if you’re up for saying “Wow” like Owen Wilson, the event takes place on 30 March.
