We’ve got a star in the making on our hands.
Earlier this year, both Barry Keoghan and Jessie Buckley were nominated for the prestigious Rising Star award by BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts).
Since then, both actors have gone from strength to strength, landing a number of major roles between them, once in the same project in HBO’s Chernobyl, one of the biggest shows of 2019.
And most recently, it was announced that Buckley would join the cast of Season 4 of Fargo, sharing the screen with huge names such as Chris Rock.
Buckley will play Oraetta Mayflower in the series, in what is being described as a story of “immigration and assimilation and the things we do for money”.
A fairly huge role to land.
And it’s not just in Ireland that Buckley’s star is on the rise as she has just made Variety’s list of top 10 actors to watch in 2019.
Strangely, the list was produced closer to the end of 2019 than the start, but that’s besides the point really.
Buckley joins the coveted list, which the publication has published every year since 1998.
The list of actors to watch this year is as follows:

- Rob Morgan (Luke Cage)
- Camila Morrone (Death Wish)
- Glen Powell (Hidden Figures)
Past honorees include many future Oscar winners and nominees, such as Mahershala Ali, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Brie Larson and Lupita Nyong’o.
