The script has already won awards; now it needs funding to make it to the big screen.

Two well-known Irish comedians, Jason Byrne and Eric Lalor, are appealing for help from the public to fund the shooting of a short film based on a script that is already winning awards.

Sons and Broken Noses, an Irish-based contemporary western, is written by Damien Aulsberry and claimed the Neo–Noir Screenplay award at the 2017 Bogart Film Noir Shorts Competition in Miami last month.

Jason and Eric will star as two bank robbers, Sean and Jake, whose luck is about to get a whole lot worse when they inadvertently kidnap the son of the biggest gangster in Ireland.

Speaking on The JOE Show on Tuesday, Eric and Jason spoke about their roles in the movie, with Eric saying: “We kind of feel a little bit of pressure to do it justice because it is a brilliant, brilliant script.”

Eric, Jason and the team involved in the production of the movie, led by directors Colin Fleming and Nigel O’Brien, are looking to raise €10,000 via crowdfunding website IndieGoGo to make the project happen, with shooting due to take place at the end of December.

The funds raised will go towards equipment rental, transportation, accommodation and catering for the four-day shoot, as well as other costs including insurance, wardrobe and props.

The producers have insisted that all crew involved in the project will be paid a modest fee for their time, while 20% of the budget has been allocated to promotion and film festival fees.

If the target for funding is exceeded, meanwhile, 50% of everything over the target mark will be donated to a mental health awareness charity, Jigsaw.

At the time of writing, over €3,000 has been raised by 75 backers and if you wish, you can contribute via the IndieGoGo website here.

You can listen back to Jason and Eric chat about the project on The JOE Show below, with Eric also elaborating on his new-found adulation amongst elderly Fair City viewers and Jason discussing his role on Ireland’s Got Talent, which launches on TV3 early in 2018.
