Very sad news.
Hollywood acting legend James Caan has passed away at the age of 82.
Famous for his tough guy roles, the actor’s death was confirmed on Thursday in a statement on his official Twitter account.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of 6 July,” it read.
“The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
Caan was Oscar-nominated for his role as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather and was also renowned for his lead turns in the films Alien Nation, Misery, Rollerball, The Gambler and Thief.
He also appeared in Wes Anderson’s directorial debut Bottle Rocket and played the biological father to Will Ferrell’s Buddy in hit comedy Elf.
Caan had five children, including actor Scott Caan who appeared in the Ocean’s Trilogy of movies and in the TV reboot of Hawaii Five-0.
