James Franco hopes that Shia LaBeouf is trying to fool us all and is normal after all

Suppose we all hope he's 'doing a Joaquin'...

James Franco has defended Shia LaBeouf over some of his recent ‘spicy’ behaviour, but says he hopes that his actions are part of some elaborate piece of ‘performance art.’

We’ve long since figured at JOE that LaBeouf is pulling ‘a Joaquin Phoenix,’ and Franco hopes his fellow actor is just trying to hoodwink us all rather than acting like an absolute cretin for the sake of it.

It all started when LaBeouf’s short film HowardCantour.com was embroiled in a plagiarism row with a well-known comic book artist.

LaBeouf then started tweeting apologies that he ripped off from the likes of Kanye West and Tiger Woods, and paid for a plane to sky-write an apology as well.

Then there was that paper bag incident.

“Though the wisdom of some of his actions may seem questionable, as an actor and artist I’m inclined to take an empathetic view of his conduct,” Franco wrote in an article for The New York Times.

“I hope that his actions are intended as a piece of performance art.

“I think Mr. LaBeouf’s project, if it is a project, is a worthy one.

“I just hope that he is careful not to use up all the good will he has gained as an actor in order to show us that he is an artist.”
