RTÉ provide update on future of Kin amid fears show might never return

The future of the show is in doubt.

RTÉ have provided an update on whether or not one of its most popular shows, Kin, will return to our screens anytime soon.

Last month, it was reported that Bron Studios, the production company behind the show, had declared bankruptcy, putting the future of the crime drama in major doubt.

However, RTÉ said they are "still working" on getting the show back on the air and are "hopeful" that season 3 will come to the broadcaster.

RTÉ revealed their autumn schedule on Monday, with fan favorite Kin notably missing from the line-up.

"RTÉ would very much like KIN to return and continues to work with our international partners to make it happen," a spokesperson told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"We hope to have a further update in relation to season 3 in the coming months."

Co-created by Peter McKenna and Ciaran Donnelly, KIN aired its first season in September 2021 and starred big-name talents such as Aiden Gillen, Charlie Cox and Ciarán Hinds supported by a host of great performances from the likes of Clare Dunne, Yasmin Seky and Emmett Scanlan.

Season two premiered in March and became a fan favourite in its prime-time Sunday evening slot. Filming for season three of the show has already begun with RTÉ approving season four and planning to begin filming in September.

However, with Bron Studios, who provided serious financial weight, pulling the plug the show's future is still up in the air.

The company - who also backed the likes of big-budget flicks Joker, Licorice Pizza and Ghostbusters: Afterlife - cited the COVID pandemic and both the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes as major roadblocks for their future, ultimately proving insurmountable.
