Louis Theroux is back with three controversial new documentaries

JOE

Louis Theroux has returned and this time he’s tackling alcoholism, brain damage and Jimmy Saville.

Everyone’s favourite awkward, award-winning documentary-maker has announced he will be returning to BBC 2 this year, with two brand new films in addition to the one he was already working on.

After bringing us candid insights on everything, from prison to porn and swinging to Scientology, Theroux will take a hard look at alcohol addiction and brain injury.

In his first show, with the working title ‘Brain Injury’, the British filmmaker will examine some of the estimated one million people in the UK living with the long-term effects of a brain damage and the doctors who care for them.

In the second piece Theroux will visit King’s College Hospital in London and meet patients who are suffering from substance abuse who are on the verge of drinking themselves to death.

In a recent Facebook post, BBC2 Editor Adam Barker, said they are: ‘delighted to welcome Louis Theroux back to the channel with a set of films covering British subjects with his usual penetrating documentary gaze and commitment to unpicking complex human dilemmas with highly sophisticated filmmaking’.

Theroux will also be releasing his second documentary on British TV presenter and suspected paedophile Jimmy Saville later this year, 16 years after the original BBC programme, When Louis Met Jimmy.

Exact dates are not yet confirmed for the release of the shows.
