John Connors’ previous comments caused quite a stir online as fans were eager for the popular crime show to make its return to their screens.
Former Love/Hate actor John Connors has clarified what he meant by confirming the show’s return while on the Six O’Clock Show last week.
While on the Virgin Media show, host Brian Dowling asked Connors if the smash-hit drama was returning to which Connors replied “Yeah it is.”
He added: “It’s going into production later this year, so it will be out next year.
“I can’t really reveal the plot, but I’ll be in it and I can’t reveal who else will be in it. But it’s going ahead again.”
Unsurprisingly, this sent fans of the show, which ended in 2014, into a frenzy of excitement. However, soon after his comments RTE released a statement saying they had no plans for a reboot of the series.
Connors, who played Patrick Ward on the show, has now clarified the comments that he made.
Speaking to Dave Moore on Today FM on Wednesday he said that he only “confirmed himself coming back so far.”
He revealed that he is a writer and executive producer alongside Love/Hate creator Stuart Carolan as part of a new Irish crime drama that features his character from Love/Hate.
Connors said: “All I confirmed is that Patrick Ward is coming back, I’m coming back for sure, and I’m a writer on the show.
“Stuart has honoured me by asking me to write the show with him, and I’m the executive producer. It’s the best writing I’ve ever encountered.”
He added that the show will “100 per cent” be on screens next year however, it is not yet known where the show will be available to watch as host Dave Moore said that his team had been talking to Netflix and “they know not much about this.”
When asked as to whether or not the show he is working on is not in fact Love/Hate 2 and is just a crime drama that features Patrick Ward Connors replied that the project “is at a very good stage and I’m so, so excited.
“It’s going to be at a huge, huge scale even compared to the original (Love/Hate).”
Love/Hate ran from 2010 to 2014 on RTE and was a sensation during its time on air. It starred such actors as Robert Sheehan, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Ruth Negga, Killian Scott, Charlie Murphy, Peter Coonan, Aidan Gillen, as well as a young Barry Keoghan.
