Regina King won an Oscar for her performance in the 2018 film.

It is Thursday.

Sadly, the weekend ain’t here yet.

On the positive side, there are some good movies on telly tonight.

Here’s your options.

If Beale Street Could Talk – BBC Four – 9pm

Our pick for tonight, this 2018 romantic drama follows a young woman in 1970’s New York named Tish (KiKi Layne) who seeks to prove her lover (Stephan James) innocent before the birth of their child after he is wrongly arrested.

Based on James Baldwin’s novel of the same name and adapted for the screen by Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), If Beale Street Could Talk is beautifully directed while telling a powerful story of racial injustice.

Its cast is incredible too, with Regina King receiving an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Tish’s supportive mother.

Deadpool 2 – Film4 – 9pm

Ryan Reynolds returns as the merc with a mouth in a decent if slightly overstuffed sequel.

The Bourne Ultimatum – ITV4 – 9pm

The third and widely considered best entry in the spy series of films.

The Wretched – Horror Channel – 9pm

This well-reviewed horror sees a defiant teenage boy face off with a 1,000-year-old evil witch posing as the neighbor next door.

SAS: Red Notice – Sky Showcase – 10pm

A British action-thriller with a cast that includes Andy Serkis and Ruby Rose.

Lilies of the Field – BBC Four – 10.50pm

For this 1960’s comedy-drama, legendary actor Sidney Poitier won the Oscar for Best Actor.

Passenger 57 – Turner Classic Movies – 11.05pm

The film that made Wesley Snipes an action star.

Dog Soldiers – Film4 – 11.20pm

This terrific action-horror centres on a routine military exercise that turns into a nightmare in the Scotland wilderness when the soldiers are forced to defend themselves against a pack of werewolves.

Mom and Dad – Horror Channel – 12.35am

A teenage girl and her young brother try to defend themselves against their mom (Selma Blair) and dad (Nicolas Cage) after a mass hysteria of unknown origin causes parents to turn violently on their own kids.

This comedy-horror is helmed by one of the co-directors of Crank.
