A thought provoking buddy comedy is among the movies on TV tonight

Hugh Carr

movies on tv 12 september

The film even spawned a spin-off TV series.

It’s Monday, and you know what that means.

More great films being directly beamed to your telly.

The first weekend of Garth Brooks fever is over, so you might want to take it easy this afternoon.

And there’s really no better way than with a good movie.

Here’s JOE’s top picks for the best of the silver screen on the small screen this Monday (12 September).

A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood – Film4 – 9pm

Tom Hanks takes on the role of America’s uncle in this biopic about the life of Mr Rogers.

Windtalkers – ITV4 – 9pm

John Woo attempts to make a WWII drama. It’s… not the best.

Heist – TG4 – 9.30pm

Robert De Niro and Dave Bautista star in this fairly terrible action thriller.

Logan – Film4 – 11.10pm

Bloody, brooding, and brutal; in this writer’s humble opinion, this is the best X-Men film.

The Aftermath – BBC Two – 11.15pm

“Do I need to have seen The Beforemath to know what’s going on?” – Your dad, probably.

Blindspotting – Film4 – 1.50am

Our top pick for tonight is one for the night owls, but it’s well worth staying up for.

This buddy comedy-drama stars Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs, and you may recognise the latter from his work with the band clippings, or his role as Thomas Jefferson in the hit musical Hamilton.

The pair co-wrote and produced the flick, following a parolee who has three days left until freedom, until he witnesses a police shooting which throws his plans, and his friendship, up into the air.

Funny, and at times thought-provoking, the film was nominated at several independent film festivals, and has even since been turned into a TV series on Starz.

If you’re up this late, it’s well worth a watch.

Manusangada – Channel 4 – 1.55pm

A stirring Tamil-language drama based on a true story.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
