Florence Foster Jenkins – BBC Four – 10.45pm

Our pick for tonight is this biographical dramedy set in the ’40s about Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep, Oscar-nominated for the role), a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice.

With its beautiful recreation of the time period, its fascinating story and its terrific lead turns from Streep and Hugh Grant, Florence Foster Jenkins will have you laughing for much of its runtime, as well as tearing up during its emotional finale.

US Marshals – Turner Classic Movies – 10.55pm

Tommy Lee Jones reprises the character he won an Oscar for playing in The Fugitive for this much less gripping spin-off. Wesley Snipes and Robert Downey Jr are in support.

In the Valley of Elah – AMC – 11.30pm

Tommy Lee Jones stars again, this time as a retired military investigator who works with a police detective (Charlize Theron) to uncover the truth behind his son’s disappearance following his return from a tour of duty in Iraq.

The influential ’70s revenge thriller starring Charles Bronson.
