Movies on TV Monday 21 January

Blue Monday.

The most depressing day of the year, supposedly.

It’s a new week, with new possibilities, so we’re going to beat this thing.

Perhaps one method of battling the blues might come in the form of relaxing with a movie or two.

We can’t guarantee that tonight’s selection will put a smile on your face, but choose away from the below nonetheless…

Monday 21 January

X-Men 2 – Film 4 – 6.25pm

The strongest entry of the X-Men series featuring the most interesting villain in the form of Brian Cox.

Safe – SyFy – 9pm

Having also aired it on Friday night, SyFy is really getting mileage out of Jason Statham’s best film, but seeing as it is indeed his best film, we’re okay with that.

Green Zone – TG4 – 9.30pm

Matt Damon fights confusion and corruption in Baghdad with typically frenetic direction from Paul Greengrass.

Unknown – ITV4 – 10.05pm

Liam Neeson rides that post-Taken wave.

Let Me In – SyFy – 11pm

The American remake of Let The Right One In is not as sharp or biting as the original effort, but it’s certainly not a waste of your time, either.

Gangster No. 1 – Film 4 – 11.25pm

Long before he was a regular fixture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Paul Bettany turned heads and made a name for himself as the younger version of Malcolm McDowell in this gritty, grim and bloody drama.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
