One of the best legal thrillers of all time is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

Presumed Innocent

It is based on a bestselling novel and stars an A-lister.

Amazon Prime Video has just added 34 huge movies to its library but if none of these are for you, the following films are airing on TV tonight:

Crazy Rich Asians – RTÉ2 – 9pm

A Chinese-American professor (Constance Wu) travels to meet the family of her boyfriend (Henry Golding) and is surprised to discover they are among the richest in Singapore. One of the better rom-coms of recent years.

12 Strong – Film4 – 9pm

Chris Hemsworth leads the cast of this 2018 Afghanistan-set war film.

The Dukes of Hazzard – Comedy Central – 9pm

The critically panned movie reboot of the action comedy TV series.

Prince of Darkness – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm

One of legendary horror filmmaker John Carpenter’s most underrated movies, Prince of Darkness follows a group of scientists in LA who are asked to assist a Catholic priest (Donald Pleasence) in investigating an ancient cylinder of liquid discovered in a monastery.

However, they soon come to learn that the mysterious substance is in fact the essence of Satan.

Sacrifice – Horror Xtra – 9pm

This low-budget Norway-set tribute to H.P. Lovecraft is very flawed but not without some fun, including the appearance of cult horror icon Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator) in a supporting role.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II – Horror Xtra – 10.50pm

An ambitious but flawed sequel to a horror classic.

Death Wish – ITV4 – 10.50pm

A New York City architect (Charles Bronson) becomes a vigilante after his wife is murdered in this 1974 action-drama which became a touchstone for the sub-genre of revenge films.

Presumed Innocent – Turner Classic Movies – 10.55pm

Our pick for tonight is this 1990 movie about a married prosecutor (Harrison Ford) who is charged with the murder of his colleague and mistress (Greta Scacchi).

Directed by the great Alan J. Pakula (All the President’s Men) and based on the bestselling novel of the same name by lawyer Scott Turow, Presumed Innocent received rave reviews upon release – with Ford’s lead turn and the twisty screenplay among the qualities singled out for the praise.

The legal thriller was also a smash hit at the box office, becoming the eighth-highest-grossing film of 1990.

Presumed Innocent

Mom and Dad – Legend – 11pm

In this well-reviewed comedy-horror, a teenage girl and her young brother try to defend themselves against their mom (Selma Blair) and dad (Nicolas Cage) after a mass hysteria of unknown origin causes parents to turn violently on their own kids.

Shadowlands – BBC Two – 11.15pm

This biographical drama about the relationship between academic C. S. Lewis (Anthony Hopkins) and Jewish American poet Joy Davidman (Debra Winger) has a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Dreamland – Film4 – 11.35pm

Finn Cole plays a teen bounty hunter in this thriller who is torn between helping or capturing a seductive fugitive bank robber (Oscar-nominee Margot Robbie) hiding in his small town during the Great Depression.
