Arguably the funniest Irish film ever is among the movies on TV tonight

Welcome to the start of your weekend! We'd highly recommend this absolutely bonkers new thriller series, but if you're in more of a movie mood, then here are all of the movies to check out on the TV this evening... Bad Boys II - Virgin Media One - 9pm Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return for Michael Bay's big budget action thriller. Very entertaining, even if it has absolutely no right to be 147 minutes long. Wedding Crashers - ITV2 - 9pm Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are very funny in this great comedy about a pair of douchebros who try to hook up with random ladies at strangers' weddings. Bird on a Wire - Legend - 9pm The pairing of Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn in this 1990 action comedy should've been movie magic. Unfortunately, it just isn't exciting or funny enough. Mission Impossible Fallout - FilmFour - 9pm Yep, this is still the best one of the series.

Alien - BBC Three - 10pm This is either the best one or the second best one in the series, depending on who you ask. The Last Right - RTÉ2 - 10.15pm A fairly impressive cast - Colm Meaney, Niamh Algar, Michael Huisman, Brian Cox - feature in this decent comedy about a man who suddenly finds himself left in charge of the corpse of a man he's never met before. Color Out Of Space - MTV - 11pm Nic Cage headlines this sci-fi horror about a family who have their lives turned upside down when a meteor crashes in their yard, releasing a reality-bending organism. Official Secrets - BBC Two - 11.05pm This pretty good political thriller tells the true story of a government whistleblower (here played by Keira Knightley) who revealed top secret information about the Iraq War. Deadpool 2 - Channel 4 - 11.05pm A mediocre sequel to the much-more-entertaining first movie.

Game of Death - Sky Max - 11.10pm Not the best Bruce Lee movie, not the worst. The Vault - Legend - 11.10pm A horror movie about a bank hiding a secret haunted vault. James Franco stars. It isn't very good. xXx: The Return of Xander Cage - FilmFour - 11.55pm The third movie in the franchise sees Vin Diesel return to the titular role. Samuel L. Jackson, Toni Collette, Donnie Yen, Tony Jaa, and real life footballer Neymar feature in the cast. The action is actually pretty good. Jackass 3 - Comedy Central - 12am The one with the High Five, arguably the simplest and funniest of all of the Jackass stunts. The Children Act - RTÉ One - 12.15am Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci star in this real-life legal drama centred around a family's religious beliefs that will stop their child from receiving a blood transfusion, essentially sentencing him to death. Peppermint - Channel 4 - 1.15am A revenge action thriller starring Jennifer Garner. Not good (13% on Rotten Tomatoes), but not without its defenders. The Guard - FilmFour - 2am

Our pick for the night is The Guard, arguably the funniest Irish movie of all time. Brendan Gleeson stars as a local police man who has, shall we say, more in common with the criminals than his fellow enforcers of the law. That changes ever so slightly when he's forced to work with an American agent (Don Cheadle) when a huge influx of drugs arrives in his sleepy coastal town. If you miss it on TV tonight, The Guard is also available to rent on Google Play, Rakuten TV and Apple TV.

Mirror Mirror - Comedy Central Extra - 4.20am Julia Roberts stars in this live-action retelling of the story of Snow White. We're sure it is on at 4.20am for a very specific reason. Read more:
