Your Wednesday night menu of movies has arrived!

If you’re in the movies mood this evening, then look no further, as these are all of the best (and some of the worst) movies on TV for your Wednesday evening…

Thunderball – ITV4 – 6.25pm

Sean Connery’s fourth outing as Bond sees him on the hunt for two stolen atomic bombs. Good fun.

The Old Man & The Gun – FilmFour – 7pm

Our pick of the night is the brilliant based-on-a-true-story crime drama about a career criminal and escape artist. Robert Redford, in his final role before announcing his retirement, stars as the real-life criminal who escapes from prison and embarks on a fresh crime spree, robbing banks in the most gentlemanly way possible.

Along the way he falls in love (Sissy Spacek) while a detective (Casey Affleck) makes it his mission to catch him. With a score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and filled with some tremendous performances, this should be on your must-watch list if you missed it in cinemas and/or on streaming.

Die Hard 2 – ITV4 – 9pm

John McClane discovers that the same shit can indeed happen to the same guy twice. (And two more times, too.)

The Lighthouse – FilmFour – 9pm

Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe headline this unsettling horror drama about a pair of workers at an isolated lighthouse who slowly begin to go quite mad. Not for everyone, but if it is for you, then you’ll absolutely love it.

1408 – FilmFour – 11.15pm

A mid entry in the Stephen King adaptation rankings, about a paranormal investigator (John Cusack) who checks into a supposedly haunted hotel room, against the advice of the hotel’s manager (Samuel L. Jackson).

Rocky Balboa – ITV4 – 11.25pm

The sixth Rocky movie, in which Stallone is dragged back into the ring when a computer simulation predicts he could defeat the current world champion. A bit ridiculous, but still pretty good.

The Back-Up Plan – Comedy Central Extra – 12am

J-Lo stars in this rom-com about a woman who conceives twins through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her dreams on the very same day. 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, just FYI.

The Vigil – FilmFour – 1.20am

A brilliant supernatural horror movie about a young man who discovers there is something very wrong at the home in which he has been assigned to sit with a deceased member of the local Jewish community.
