Mrs. Brown's Boys

Love it or hate it, Irish audiences can’t seem to escape Mrs. Brown’s Boys.

Few shows in the history of television have divided opinion as much as Mrs. Brown’s Boys. Year after year since its inception, it has been watched by millions upon millions of people and regularly tops the most watched lists on RTÉ and BBC alike.

And yet, few shows have been subject to such a damning critical reception as Brendan O’Carroll’s creation; this particular review stands out amongst a plethora of scathing reactions over the years.

Perhaps because of its aforementioned potential to draw in huge audiences, it remains a highlight of the Christmas schedule for both BBC and RTÉ and there will be two brand new episodes going out on the national broadcaster over Christmas.

The episodes will go out on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and, according to RTÉ, will see Agnes invite Winnie to stay when her house is flooded and Buster revealing some big news.

The Mrs. Brown’s Boys episodes are just a small part of a bumper Christmas schedule for RTÉ, which also includes a selection of great movies, The Young Offenders Christmas special, Keith Barry’s Magical New Year Party, a documentary on Dublin GAA legend Jason Sherlock and a special documentary on the Pope’s visit to Ireland titled Pope Francis in Ireland: Behind the Scenes.

Get the tin of Roses and the leftover turkey sandwiches ready as there’ll be no shortage of things to watch.
