This is really cool.

Production has begun on a brand new Netflix series that is being filmed in Wicklow.

Fate: The Winx Saga is based on a popular Italian animated franchise, and will be a six-part live action adaptation of the cartoon, aimed at young adults.

The official bio for the show states that it “follows the coming-of-age journey of five unlikely friends attending Alfea, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld where they must learn to master their magical powers while navigating love, rivalries and the monsters that threaten their very existence.”

Sounds pretty cool.

Casting for the show includes Abigail Cowen (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Fosters), Hannah van der Westhuysen (The Fugitives, Frankenstein), Precious Mustapha (Endeavour), Eliot Salt (Gameface), Elisha Applebaum (Undercover Hooligan, No Reasons), Sadie Soverall (Rose Plays Julie), Freddie Thorp (The Discovery of Witches, Safe, Overdrive), Danny Griffin (So Awkward, The Gentlemen), Theo Graham (Clink, Hollyoaks, Brief Encounters) and Jacob Dudman as (The Stranger, Medici, The A List).

Eve Best (Nurse Jackie), Robert James-Collier (Downton Abbey), Josh Cowdery (Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them) Alex Macqueen (The Thick of It, Sally 4Ever) and Eva Birthistle (Brooklyn, The Last Kingdom) also star.

An image has been released from the shoot, showing five of the actresses who will appear in the show.

No release date has been set for the show, but with production already underway, we’d expect it to arrive on the streaming service at some point in 2020.
