WATCH: Netflix’s new documentary dives into the dark side of Tinder

Rory Cashin

“The ultimate fairytale gone nightmare.”

Anyone out there who is single (or not, we’re not here to judge) and using the dating/hook-up apps, then they’re likely already well aware that it can be… difficult.

Between the match-collectors, the ghosters, the breadcrumbers, the orbiters, the kittenfishers and the benchers – yes, they’re all real terms for online dating – apps like Tinder have completely changed the landscape of modern dating, and not always necessarily for the better.

However, Netflix’s new documentary The Tinder Swindler shows one of the absolute worst potential outcomes for online dating.

Much like recent hit podcast series Sweet Bobby, it tells the story of a relationship that began online, only for it to devolve into a scheme of long-running criminal activities.

Produced by the folks behind hit documentaries The Imposter and Don’t F**k With Cats, the story doesn’t end with the revelation of the swindler, but only gets deeper when the several victims of the online predator team-up to get revenge.

The Tinder Swindler arrives on Netflix on Wednesday, 2 February.
