The dark fantasy show has assembled a stacked cast.
Upcoming Netflix series The Sandman has cast Irish actress Niamh Walsh in a major role.
The dark fantasy show is based on Neil Gaiman’s popular comic book of the same name.
The plot synopsis from Netflix reads: “The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”
Walsh will play Ethel Cripps, who is described as “a betrayed and determined young woman seeking to survive”.
Actress Joely Richardson will be playing an older version of the character.
Alongside Walsh and Richardson, other new additions to the cast include David Thewlis (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Killing Eve), Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who), Stephen Fry (QI) and Patton Oswalt (MODOK).
They join the previously cast Tom Sturridge (Velvet Buzzsaw) as Morpheus, as well as Boyd Holbrook (Narcos), Charles Dance (Mank), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten).
Walsh recently starred in RTÉ series Smother and also had a role in Good Omens, another show based on a work by Gaiman.
Gaiman is also an executive producer and co-writer on the upcoming series, alongside David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight).
Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) will serve as showrunner.
