OFFICIAL: Season 3 of Mr. Mercedes will be made

Paul Moore

Mr Mercedes Season 3

Great news for fans of the show.

There’s no such thing as too much Brendan Gleeson and on that note, we’re delighted to see the talented Irish actor back on our screens with Season 2 of Mr. Mercedes currently airing on RTÉ.

Well, if you’re a fan of Steven King’s beloved trilogy, we’ve got some good news because Season 3 of the show has been confirmed.

David E. Kelley will return to oversee the writing side of things while Jack Bender is directing again.

While no plot details have been confirmed, the show is based on Stephen King’s trilogy of books consisting of the titles “Mr. Mercedes,” “Finders Keepers,” and “End of Watch.”

On that note, it’s fair to assume that the next series will follow a similar arc. This being said, the network have said that the show could expand on, and even move past, King’s beloved novels.

As for Season 3, it will consist of 10 one-hour episodes and production is scheduled to begin in early 2019. At present, the premiere date is slated for later that year.

“’Mr. Mercedes’ has resonated with such a wide audience, so we’re thrilled to bring it back for a third season for our customers. David E. Kelley, Jack Bender and Sonar have crafted a series that honours the original work by Stephen King and we can’t wait to see where they take the show in a ‘post-Mr. Mercedes world,” said Daniel York, senior executive vice president and chief content officer for AT&T.

“Going into this, the idea is that we have three books and in success it would make for three seasons and then, who knows? Maybe longer if we’re having fun,” he added.

Even more Mr. Mercedes? Bring it on!

In case you’ve never seen the show, consider this to be your spoiler alert warning.

The show revolves around the retired detective Bill Hodges who is still haunted by the unsolved case of Mr. Mercedes, who claimed sixteen lives when he drove a stolen Mercedes through a line of job-seekers at a local job fair. Meanwhile, brilliant young psychopath Brady Hartsfield, the real Mr. Mercedes, reemerges to focus his attention on Hodges. What begins as an online cat-and-mouse game between the two soon has deadly real-life consequences as an increasingly desperate Hartsfield becomes bent on leaving his mark on the world.

Season 2 of the show took place a year after Brady Hartsfield’s (Harry Treadaway) thwarted attempt to perpetrate a second mass murder in the community of Bridgton, Ohio.

Since the incident, Hartsfield had been hospitalised in a vegetative state.

Retired Detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) has done his best to move on from his Brady obsession, teaming up with Holly Gibney (Justine Lupe) to open Finders Keepers, a private investigative agency. But when unexplainable occurrences began to affect hospital staff members attending to Brady, Hodges was haunted by the feeling that Brady was somehow responsible.
