A Game of Thrones actress has also been cast as Ellie, but not the one we all thought it was going to be.

After months – if not years – of speculation, the final casting decisions for HBO’s big-budget adaptation of hit video game The Last Of Us have finally been decided.

As first reported by Deadline, Pedro Pascal will play Joel, the hardened survivor in a post-apocalypse America following the rapid spread of a deadly virus, and he has been tasked with smuggling young girl Ellie across the country.

For the longest time, fans had dream-cast Ellie is set to be played by Maisie Williams, but it has been confirmed that one of her Game of Thrones co-stars has nabbed the role.

Bella Ramsey, best known for her role as the tough-as-nails Lyanna Mormont, will play the young girl who may hold the key to curing the virus that has rocked the world in The Last of Us.

Behind the cameras, Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) will direct the pilot episode, with the script for the show coming from Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), as well as the game’s director Neil Druckmann.

The news of Pascal’s hiring on this show broke almost simultaneously with the news that his The Mandalorian co-star Gina Carano had been fired from that show.

Back in January, The Last Of Us Part II was named the most awarded game in history, winning 261 awards since it launched in June 2020.
