PICS: Loads of positive reaction to Irish talent receiving a host of Oscar nods

What a day for the Irish on the big screen.

The 88th Academy Award nominations have been announced and a lot of Irish talent will be thrilled.

Lenny Abrahamson has had a field day, with his film Room up for Best Picture, and the Dubliner has also been shortlisted for Best Director, while Emma Donoghue is in contention for Best Adapted Screenplay. To complete a stellar day for Room, Brie Larson has been nominated for Best Actress.

Elsewhere, Saoirse Ronan is in the running for Best Actress for her work in Brooklyn – which is also up for Best Picture – and Michael Fassbender will compete against Leo and gang for Best Actor courtesy of his Steve Jobs role.

Benjamin Cleary can also celebrate, with his film Stutterer included in Best Live Action Short Film.
