The Oscar-winning movie is currently not available on streaming, so now is the time to watch.
Our TV movie pick for tonight is The Power of the Dog, the Oscar-winning film that was released back in 2021.
Written and directed by two-time Oscar-winner Jane Campion (The Piano) and adapted from the novel of the same name by Thomas Savage, the revisionist Western is set in 1920s Montana.
It follows a cruel and tough rancher named Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch) who clashes with Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst), the new wife of his brother George (Jesse Plemons).
That said, while Phil endeavours to make Rose’s life difficult, he begins to grow close with Rose’s son, Peter (Kodi Smit-Phee), from a former marriage.
The Power of the Dog was acclaimed by critics, thanks to its beautiful cinematography, its incredible performances and its dark surprising story.
It went on to earn an incredible 94% Rotten Tomatoes score and was also nominated for 11 Oscars, winning Best Director for Campion.
However, despite being released first on Netflix and marketed as an original for the streaming service, the film left its library in Ireland and the UK last August.
As to the reasons for this, Digital Spy wrote last year that The Power of the Dog’s original distribution deal for the UK and Ireland included a one-year exclusive window for the BBC, who helped produce the movie.
The website stated that when that year has passed, the film will return to Irish and UK Netflix.
Right now though, the only way to watch The Power of the Dog appears to be on BBC Two tonight at 11.05pm

Men – Film4 – 10.45pm
Ireland’s own Jessie Buckley plays a woman whose holiday to an English countryside becomes a nightmare in the freaky horror thriller.
Death Race 2000 – Legend – 11pm
The ’70s cult sci-fi action flick starring David Carradine.
American Pie 2 – Channel 4 – 11.05pm
The second one.
Official Secrets – RTÉ One – 11.15pm
Keira Knightley plays a British Intelligence whistleblower in this acclaimed drama based on true events.
