Red alert because The Snapper will be returning on stage for Irish audiences to enjoy

Paul Moore

The Snapper

Is that a turkey or a baby?

It doesn’t matter how many times it’s repeated on TV, Irish people will always watch The Snapper – that’s the sign of something that will always stand the test of time. It also helps that it’s one of the most quotable Irish features of all time.

In the film, Kay Curley famously said that “it’s a terrible shock. What is? To be married to your husband for 25 years and finding out he’s a prick” but The Gate Theatre have a very pleasant surprise in store because they’ll be showing The Snapper again.

As stated previously, the play has already proven to be a massive hit with audiences and critics alike – the Irish Times and The Arts Review both gave it four-star reviews and various audiences members felt that it was even funnier than the film.

JOE’s full review is here and we felt that the play was a fantastic love letter to Dublin and all of its idiosyncrasies.

Well, there’s no need to ‘snip snip’ your purse strings because the play will be returning this summer and tickets start from €15.

As stated on the Gate Theatre’s official website, the production will return on 6 June and it’s set to run until the start of August.

If you’re curious about what the production will look like, here’s what’s in store.

On a side note, we do love the fact that the Gate Theatre sits right next door to the Rotunda Hospital where Sharon’s baby is born.
