Scorsese recently said that movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) aren’t cinema.

Legendary director Martin Scorsese recently took aim at the MCU, saying that he doesn’t consider Marvel movies to be cinema, and that they are more like theme parks instead.

He said: “I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks.

“It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”

Mr MCU himself Robert Downey Jr has since replied to Scorsese, sticking up for his team.

When asked if he felt the MCU movies are cinema, he smartly replied: “Well it plays in theatres.”

He continued: “It’s like saying Howard Stern isn’t radio. It makes no sense to say it… When you come in like a stomping beast, and you eliminate the competition in such a demonstrative way, it’s phenomenal.”

Take a look at a clip from the interview here:

Samuel L. Jackson has also hit back at Scorsese, saying: “Films are films. Everybody doesn’t like his stuff either. Everybody’s got an opinion, so I mean it’s okay.”

Lesson here? Don’t pick a fight with the Avengers…
