“I text Hugh Jackman the usual array of emojis every Saturday…”

In the grand scheme of things, we’re still waiting on that one good movie based on a video game. Some have neared that goal, but none have quite achieved it.

That could finally be about to change with Pokémon Detective Pikachu, and a big part of that is Ryan Reynolds.

Having spent years proving that he is a complete comedic genius, which was cemented permanently with his role in Deadpool, here he puts his comedy chops to a completely different kind of use, as he provides the voice and motion capture for Pikachu in the new blockbuster based on the hit video game.

In the lead up to the release of the movie, JOE was lucky enough to get the Irish exclusive in chatting to the megastar, and we talked about everything from his prolonged vacation in Ireland (while his wife Blake Lively filmed her new spy thriller The Rhythm Section here), to his intense bromance with fellow big-screen superhero Hugh Jackman, and even the the more out-there, bonkers stuff he said while he was Pikachu that will never see the light of day.
