Recognition for two of Ireland’s finest acting talents.

Saoirse Ronan and Barry Keoghan are amongst the nominees for the 33rd annual Film Independent Spirit Awards, which were announced on Tuesday.

Ronan has been nominated for best female lead for her role in Lady Bird, while Keoghan has secured a best supporting male nomination for his role in The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

As they do every year, the Spirit Awards, which aim to celebrate artist-driven, independent films, will take place the day before the Oscars, with the 2018 event scheduled for March 3, 2018 in Los Angeles.

Previous winners of awards include Christopher Nolan, Zach Braff, Amy Adams, the Coen brothers, Spike Lee, Oliver Stone, Ashley Judd and Steve McQueen; fingers crossed Ronan and Keoghan can follow in their footsteps in a few months’ time.
