Where to watch the 15 scientifically-proven scariest movies of all time

This is where you can watch the scariest of the scary movies.

We recently wrote about the 15 scientifically-proven scariest movies of all time, including the single scariest scene in movie history (more on that here). If you’re a scary movies fan, then you’ll definitely have seen most – but maybe not all – of these.

But since we’re getting further and further into Spooky Season as we get closer and closer to Halloween, we figured we’d do the decent thing and tell you exactly where to find all 15 entries on that scariest ever list, and a wee reminder of what each of these scary movies are actually about:

1. Sinister
A controversial true crime writer finds a box of super 8 home movies in his new home, revealing that the murder case he is currently researching could be the work of an unknown serial killer whose legacy dates back to the 1960s. Sinister is available to watch on Netflix and with a NOW Cinema Membership.

2. Host
Six friends hire a medium to hold a seance via Zoom during lockdown, but they get far more than they bargained for as things quickly go wrong. Host is available to watch on Shudder, and to rent on Rakuten TV and Google Play.

3. Skinamarink
Two children wake up in the middle of the night to find their father is missing, and all the windows and doors in their home have vanished. Skinamarink is available to watch on Shudder.

4. Insidious
A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further. Insidious is available to watch on Netflix, Shudder and with a NOW Cinema Membership.

5. The Conjuring
Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorised by a dark presence in their farmhouse. The Conjuring is available to watch with a NOW Cinema Membership, or to rent on Rakuten TV and Google Play.

6. Hereditary
A grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences. Hereditary is available to rent on Rakuten TV and Apple TV.

7. Smile
After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, a psychiatrist becomes increasingly convinced she is being threatened by an uncanny entity. Smile is available to watch on Paramount+ or with a NOW Cinema Membership.

8. The Exorcism of Emily Rose
A lawyer takes on a negligent homicide case involving a priest who performed an exorcism on a young girl. The Exorcism of Emily Rose is available to rent on Rakuten TV and Google Play.

9. Hell House LLC
Five years after an unexplained malfunction causes the death of 15 tour-goers and staff on the opening night of a Halloween haunted house tour, a documentary crew travels back to the scene of the tragedy to find out what really happened. Hell House LLC is available to watch on Shudder, or to rent on Google Play and Apple TV.

10. Talk To Me
When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces. Talk To Me will be available to watch on from Thurs 26 Oct.

11. The Descent
A caving expedition goes horribly wrong, as the explorers become trapped and ultimately pursued by a strange breed of predators. The Descent is available to rent on Google Play and the Sky Store.

12. The Conjuring 2
Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to North London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by a supernatural spirit. The Conjuring 2 is available to watch with a NOW Cinema Membership, and also available to rent on Rakuten TV and Google Play.

13. It Follows
A young woman is followed by an unknown supernatural force after a sexual encounter. It Follows is available to rent on Google Play and Rakuten TV.

14. The Dark and the Wicked
On a secluded farm in a nondescript rural town, a man is slowly dying. His family gathers to mourn, and soon a darkness grows, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that something evil is taking over the family. The Dark and the Wicked is available to watch on Shudder.

15. Paranormal Activity
After moving into a suburban home, a couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence. Paranormal Activity is available to watch on Netflix or with a NOW Cinema Membership.
