The school in Derry Girls has actually brought The Habit magazine back with the most perfect article

Paul Moore

Amazing!

There are many religious elements to Derry Girls that we’d love to see happen. For example, wouldn’t it be great if ‘Big M’ actually smirked at Clare? Then again, we’re firmly of the belief that it only rains because the Virgin Mary hears our lies and it makes her cry causing the rain to fall. Yeah, there’s no need at all for Orla to wise up!

If any miraculous event was to happen on Foyleside, surely it would require an intervention from God to make one of Erin’s plans actually succeed. Then again, the poor girl has a devil on her shoulder called Michelle that usually mucks things up.

In a remarkable season finale, it was hard not to be moved by the poignant scene as the insignificant tension between Granda Joe and Da Gerry fades fades away as they watch the horror that unfolds on their TV screen, but a large reason why Lisa McGee’s comedy has become an instant hit is her ability to balance laughs with moments of realism and truth.

On that note, the main plot for the season finale was a hoot as the girls tried to run and edit the school magazine. After visibly panicking and compromising their journalistic integrity, Erin publishes an anonymous letter about a brave student that was telling her story about coming out to the world.

Unbeknownst to our favourite Derry Girls – and boy – that story was was actually written by Clare.

Well, thank God that Erin made that editorial decision because the other ‘leading’ story wasn’t that heartwarming or strong.

Then again, didn’t we all learn a bit more about the various ‘Shoes of the World’ or ‘Famous people that look like animals’ also?

It turns out that the school where Derry Girls is actually filmed has published this exact article in The Habit magazine and the creator of the show, Lisa McGee, is a massive fan.

Top marks for effort.

In case you haven’t seen how this groundbreaking piece of journalism ever came to be, here it is.
